Brendan Smith Talk 21.5.24 @8pm

Brendan Smith is the Education and Public Engagement Officer of the Insight SFI Research Centre for Data Analytics at the University of Galway and we have been extremely fortunate to have him with us this term to teach coding and computational skills to Rang 3 - Rang 6.

As a digital school we endeavour to ensure our pupils leave Scoil Cholmáin Tuairíní as digital citizens; capable of navigating the internet at an appropriate level and of using technology as a tool to create content and problem solve. However, unfettered access to the internet is not safe and is damaging to our children.

Brendan has offered to share his expertise with our community and to outline the dangers associated with early smartphone use and access to the internet. I would urge all parents (Naíonáin - Rang 6) to attend this zoom meeting if you can. Internet safety has become a major challenge for primary schools and we really need to work in partnership together to protect our children. I am attaching guidelines from the Dept. Of Education re. the use of smartphones for your perusal.

Meeting: Tuesday 21/05/24

Time: 8:00 - 9:00pm
