Sports
Sport is a vital part of life in our school. We are committed to providing children with opportunities to experience a wide variety of sports and games, helping them to develop skills, confidence and a lifelong love of physical activity. We work closely with our local clubs and regularly welcome visiting coaches who work with pupils in Hurling & Camogie, Gaelic Football, Basketball, Gymnastics, Hockey and Olympic Handball.
Our pupils enjoy participating in a broad range of activities, including:
- Swimming
- Olympic Handball
- Challenger 1 & 2 Handball
- Tag Rugby
- Hurling & Camogie
- Tennis & Badminton
- Athletics
- Dodgeball & Rounders
- Volleyball
- Basketball
- Gaelic Football
- Unihoc
- Soccer
- Gymnastics
- Field Hockey
In 2026 we enrolled on a pilot programme in Galway to bring field hockey to primary schools. We were honoured to play in their first ever primary schools’ blitz in Galway. We look forward to continuing on with hockey in the coming years.
We also take part in Cumann na mBunscol competitions in Hurling, Camogie and Handball, as well as inter-school competitions with schools across Galway in Soccer, Tag Rugby, Olympic Handball, Cross-Country and Athletics. In 2026 our boys team made it all the way to the FAI soccer finals in the Aviva!
In term 3 children from R2-6 go swimming in Leisureland once a week.
During break times and lunch, children have access to our excellent outdoor facilities, including a fabulous astro pitch, handball wall, basketball hoop, climbing walls, four-square grids and a table-tennis table. This ensures that all interests and abilities are catered for, encouraging active play throughout the school day.
