FAI Connacht Champions!
Yesterday was one of those rare, magic days that will live long in the memory of everyone at Scoil Cholmáin Tuairíní. We set off for Umbro Park in Castlebar as County Champions, carrying a quiet confidence and a palpable air of determination.
We often speak about the importance of doing our best here in SCT and that doing your best looks different for everyone. Yesterday, this group of buachaillí gave us a masterclass in what that looks like in practice. They showed us the power of teamwork, resilience and a true growth mindset. We could not be more proud of Tim; Luke; Jacob; Patrick H; Patrick G; Liam; Nathan and Dylan. This incredible effort was guided by our dream management team of Múinteoir Dee and Múinteoir Barry, with Múinteoir Orlaith providing that extra bit of magic as our lucky mascot (bringing her own experience as Connacht champion to the sideline).
After a narrow 2-1 loss to Bohola in our opening game, a lesser team might have lost heart. Instead, SCT dug deep, winning the next three games decisively to earn their place in the final.
True to form, the boys provided maximum entertainment value... After a 1-1 outcome in the final, it came down to a penalty shootout to finish. The tension was incredible. While Tim (Captain Fantastic) and Luke coolly slotted their shots home, the hero of the hour was Nathan Keeler. In a display of ultimate composure, Nathan stepped up to score his own penalty before immediately swapping into goal, where he made the winning save!
Beyond the scoreline, yesterday was a landmark day for our school. Our Rang 5 & 6 páistí banded together as one. Their behaviour was exemplary, respectful, kind and supportive of one another. Míle buíochas to everyone for the wonderful welcome back at school.
If there was a theme to the day, it was friendship. There is a special joy in sharing a moment of history with your friends. Cáirde go deo. It was a proud day—one that our Rang 6 might only have dreamed about back in Seomra na Naíonáin in 2018.
Fós ag brionglóid. We are officially off to the Aviva Stadium on the 9th of June.
